thanks and giving (a giveaway)

so many things to be grateful for…

when you take the time to count your blessings…to see the good…to pull those things out among the inevitable balance of bad and hard things in life…

you really have reasons for thanksgiving…

i am thankful…for my health, my children, a good husband, for love, for my Mom’s strength…for the reality that she is a cancer survivor, I am thankful for the best parents I could ask for, for siblings I cherish…

I am thankful for chocolate, pink, antique lace, my camera and how it turns my creative inspirations into such a rewarding hobby for me, I am thankful for all the people who share their beauty with me…

i am thankful for my faith, for the guidance and perspective it brings…I can not imagine my life with out the saving grace of my savior and a father in Heaven who loves me…

as silly as it seems…I am thankful for my blog…

for the weapon it is for me to fight the daily battles that motherhood brings…

it is not easy, and I fail more than most of of you…esp. lately with 4 very active and often mischievous kiddos…:)

people ask me all the time how I do it…

I am so humbled by that…and feel embarrassed at times too…my experience of motherhood is no different than the rest…

I just choose to put the good here…to bring out the beauty, the joy, the happy parts…so that I can be inspired to see them…to appreciate them…

to give thanks for them…

you see…it is hard…brutually, frustating, and chaotic…

it is very real…and stressful…

but no good comes easy…not the kind that is really worth it…

and so today, I give thanks…

thanks that transend time…that inspires me to live with thanksgiving in my heart each day…

The reason for this shoot other than it has been too long since my camera has been on one of my own…

I was selected to participate in a photography contest with a few other photographers for a darling clothing line called Matilda Jane

their stuff is so vintage and cute and I jumped at the opportunity when a friend told me about it..

We were all sent the identical dress and were told to style and photography it with our own personal twist…

here is mine…

kudos to my little model for her cooperation (you should have seen the 3 other rockstars behind the scenes while I managed this shoot all by myself…let’s just say, Ava and Mia have A LOT of energy)…

anyways, the grand prize is a all expense paid trip to the dress rehersal for the 2010 line…other prizes include gift certificates for the clothing line…

and in the spirit of Thanksgiving…we have a GIVEAWAY for you…

leave a comment here: tell me what you are thankful for…and I will enter your name into the drawing…

the girls have decided they would like to share…

this gorgeous Matilda Jane dress with the winner…

keep it for your little one (it is a size 4) or give it as a beautiful christmas gift…(we kept it clean and it is beautifully made)…

happy thanksgiving everyone…

may your holiday be blessed…

xoxo

steph - November 24, 2009 - 3:24 pm

Oh, and what i’m thankful for…
I would have to say you. Really. I have been following your blog for a couple years now and you were my inspriation and helped get me started in photography. You have answered several of my questions (so kind of you). You have inspired me not only as a photographer with you beautiful work. But also as a mother. I look at your cute little family and want to have more kids close together.

Happy Thanksgiving!

melissa - November 24, 2009 - 3:25 pm

angela s - November 24, 2009 - 3:43 pm

Oh Tonya,
I am always so inspired by your breathtaking photography, your gorgeous children, and your positive, upbeat perspective of the good in your life. Your blog makes me happy too =). Thank you for sharing such beauty with us. I too am thankful for much of the same things that you are. I am so very thankful for my family and having been honored to be the mommy of two beatiful babes who make my heart melt. I am with you though, motherhood is so hard but the best thing that has ever happened to me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have a two-year-old who would look darling in that pretty Matilda Jane dress one day and we sure would be grateful at a chance at winning it. Thanks so much. I always look forward to your posts.

Gena - November 24, 2009 - 3:45 pm

LOVE THESE! Ella, you are so pretty. We love you!

I am thankful for the breath of life God gives me each morning. I have not been thru a tragic situation where a normal person would feel thankful for every day they have been given a second chance. I am thankful that I continue to get the chance everyday to love my family, see my children act and react the way a 4 and 6 year old do, and that I get to kiss my husband every night when he walks in the door from a hard days work. I’m thankful that I get to do what I love and that I don’t have to drive to a job where I would not be appreciated. I am thankful for the life that I lead and the love that I get experience every day.

Have a blessed Holiday.

Marcela - November 24, 2009 - 4:15 pm

“Thank you Lord for my Bobba Fet costume, my robots, helicopters, boxes, grass, windows and refrigerators.” In Jesus name…Amen.

This is what my 4 yo son was thankful for while we were praying.

I am so thankful that I get to live life with such a sweet soul. There is no greater gift on this earth than hearing my son lifting his sweet little voice of thankfulness to our Lord. :)

Joneel - November 24, 2009 - 4:52 pm

Melissa called to tell me about the post and giveaway. She has been wanting to get something from Matilda Jane
ever since her friend showed her the line. But alas, they are struggling students. Someday….
What I am thankful for is family. 4 Children who have been obedient. My Parents who taught me. 4, and soon to
be 5 grandchildren who breathe new life into mine. And to know that Families are 4Ever!

Sara - November 24, 2009 - 5:01 pm

Thankful for a hard working husband. Healthy and strong kids. A place to call home. Family and friends that make life exciting. The direction and love from a Heavenly Father. Thankful to be alive.

Tammy - November 24, 2009 - 5:08 pm

I am grateful for my amazing family. Sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am to have been born to such wonderful, quirky, loving and witty parents, grandparents and siblings. Likewise, I couldn’t have picked a better husband, who is my best friend, patient, and kind. My sweet baby who astonishes and humors me every day. I have great, dear friends, near and far, who keep me sane. In general, I love my life!! I am grateful for my job. And of course I am thankful for creative people like Tonya who infuse my day with inspiration. (thanks for the soapbox)

Bethany - November 24, 2009 - 5:28 pm

Wowzers again Tonya!! Fabulous images, amazing post processing. When I began looking at the first couple of images I thought, “Is that THE dress?” And sure enough, that gorgeous girl of yours is sporting “the” dress! How incredibly sweet of you to offer it up to one of your readers! I happen to have a spirited little beauty of my own whom I would love to photograph in that dress as well!

Today I am thankful for many things. Just to name a few: My amazing and loving husband. My happy and healthy children. The opportunity to grow and learn every single day.

Thanks Tonya! May you and yours have a wonderful week!

Becky - November 24, 2009 - 5:28 pm

Wow, Tonya, those are breathtakingly beautiful. The model mostly, but also the stuff she’s modeling. What a fun contest to enter! I truly hope you get that grand prize because those pictures are incredible and you deserve it! (Too bad we can’t go vote for you!)

This caught me on a bad day to list what I’m thankful for. Being sick with a very naughty 3-year old making mischief every time I turn around is just about doing me in, but I need this chance to stop the madness for a minute and be grateful. So I will say that I am grateful for stubborn daughters, because even though they drive me up the wall at times, I think it’s that very stubbornness that will help them navigate through the bad in life and see the good, and then choose that good. I know I’ll be thankful for it when they’re teens and that stubbornness keeps them from bowing to peer pressure, so I’m going to try to be thankful for it today as well. Thanks for the opportunity to share that, and for the chance to win such a great treasure! You are so generous and it’s your generosity that has always made you so sweet. Love ya!

Becky

Andrea - November 24, 2009 - 5:31 pm

I am thankful for my 3 “boys,” for the gospel, for family that lives near and far, for your blog and mine, for my camera and my thousands of ametuer pics, for Marshall’s love for Tyler and for the hope of future kiddos… hopefully a girl to wear this dress when I win it :) Love you Tonya. Thanks for being such a great example.

Chanelle - November 24, 2009 - 5:51 pm

Love your photographs! They are beautiful. I am so thankful for a husband who loves me and puts up with me! I am thankful for my three beautiful children, family, and friends. I am thankful for Jesus dying on the cross for my sins! (My daughter would love, love, love the dress!)

BUffy - November 24, 2009 - 5:57 pm

Oh MY…As I started looking at these photos, I was thinking..”These are my Favorite..so magical.” Then I read on to hear Contest. Well…I just know you will be the winner!
and for the dress..{Doss-Holly} was ringing out to me the entire time, my little girl who was named after a small Texas town 3 yrs ago will be turning 4 this January. (sniffle sniffle) I am so Thankful for her!
This would make the best Birthday dress EVER.
Thanks again for your amazing inspiration!

LOVE YOUR PICTURES! Seriously, amazing!

Bri - November 24, 2009 - 6:37 pm

Herlehy - November 24, 2009 - 6:50 pm

I am thankful that we are friends with you and your beautiful family…you are all AMAZING people! I only wish that we did not live so far apart. I too am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who has given me the opportunity of watching over 3 great boys! If I win that darling dress please give it to one of your girls, I think that it would look much cuter on them than one of my boys. Hope you and your family have a nice Thanksgiving. We are keeping your Mom in our thoughts and prayers.

Annie Foote - November 24, 2009 - 6:51 pm

First, let me just thank you for blog which is inspiring in so many ways! I love your perspective and have read your thoughts many times with tears in my eyes. And of coarse there are the breathtakingly gorgeous pictures, which remind me I have a long way to go. Let’s see, I am thankful for my smiling, forgiving children, and for a husband that loves me always. I am grateful for my faith, and the peace it brings. I am thankful for my crazy large family and a hubby that always has a shoulder to cry on and a kiss to brighten my day!

Briana - November 24, 2009 - 9:12 pm

I am thankful that my grandfather was already at the hospital (for other reasons) when he went in to cardiac arrest in October. The doctors saved him and gave him a defibrillator and now hopefully he will be able to be at my wedding!

jACKIE M - November 24, 2009 - 9:22 pm

I am so very grateful for my little ones. My little 4month old guy gives me the warmest smiles that melt a mother’s heart and my little 2 year old girl is my biggest fan club. She gets excited when i do anything for her and shouts Yay Mommy! I am grateful for thier good health and mine and my husbands.

PamperingBeki - November 24, 2009 - 10:06 pm

Tonya, those are beautiful! I remember Matilda Jane back in the ebay days…

I’m so thankful just for this moment in my life. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and that’s a good feeling.

(If, by chance, my name is chosen please draw another winner. I don’t have a daughter this size or know anyone this size. But still wanted to comment…)

Linda Talley - November 24, 2009 - 10:12 pm

Melissa (Lund) Smith - November 24, 2009 - 10:22 pm

What I am thankful for is… chances to visit with family, living across the entire country from those I love so much is hard, so chances to spend time together is fabulous, and of course for my Husband and children. They give me so much happiness… and make me feel like I am worth so much, and for people who are kind… I never get over how kind some people are, and I am thankful for what kind people do for others always!

I found this blog a month ago and have gone all the way back in your archives, I love it so much.

I WISH I could win that beautiful BEAUTIFUL dress, but I am secretly hoping that you pull Tyler’s name (your first commenter). I loved that comment so much.

Kristen - November 25, 2009 - 10:58 am

I am 21 weeks pregnant with my third child (I have a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy), and at my 20 week ultrasound last week, I was told they found hemorrhaging on the baby’s brain. To say I was in shock is an understatement. They got me in to a specialist that afternoon, and I immediately called my “crew”, who passed the word along and within a couple hours, I had at least 100 people on their knees for my unborn baby. We got to the specialist and he looked at my baby’s brain for 1/2 hour, and his conclusion?? NOTHING. Found absolutely nothing! I praise God and believe He worked a miracle in me that day. How could I NOT be humbly thankful this Thanksgiving??!!!!

tonya - November 25, 2009 - 11:21 am

Just beautiful, Tonya! Wish I had some girls to win those cute outfits but I do have a few nieces that it would make a nice Christmas gift. Keep rockin it out, girl! Luv, T

Mandi - November 25, 2009 - 7:05 pm

First of all, gorgeous shoot – you rocked the challenge and she rocked the dress! I hope you win!
Second, I’m thankful for a marriage that has been tested and healed. Just a few months ago, nobody thought we’d make it, but we pulled through and are stronger than ever. This Thanksgiving means so much to me. I’m also thankful for supportive family and friends.

Melissa Miles - November 27, 2009 - 9:59 pm

This year I am especially thankful for the health of my sweet, little family. And also for the good found in the world… it can be hard to see with the way the media puts its spin on things, but I have been trying harder to look more closely at all the good that people are doing where ever I am at.

Thanks for your blog & wonderfully written words, in particular. I have just recently started reading & am constantly inspired. And, of course, your photography is absolutely beautiful!!

Amber Horn - November 28, 2009 - 2:14 am

Rebekah Towers - November 28, 2009 - 1:18 pm

I know I’ve said it before but you really have a way with words. Love reading your posts! I know I don’t have a little girl but I have nieces and this is SOOO cute. You DO have great little models too! :) I am so grateful for all the little things in life. Life can get so busy and we all can get sidetracked with what is the most important. But I am daily reminded of the little AMAZING BLESSINGS that life has to offer…when I watch my little guys playing together, the silly theories that they have, and their simple love for me even when I am not the nicest mom. We all have our moments. :)

Heather Giustino - November 29, 2009 - 12:06 am

Those pictures are gorgeous!! You did a beautiful job! And I love that dress :)
