What is DA form 268?
The DA Form 268 is an Army personnel form used in conjunction with Regulation AR 600-8-2 to add or remove “flags” to a soldier’s record that will affect decisions pertaining to the soldier’s possible promotion in rank.
What does it mean when a Soldier is flagged?
According to AR 600-8-2, “flag” is an abbreviated term used to describe the initiation or removal of a suspension of personnel actions. When a Soldier’s status changes from favorable (meets the standard) to unfavorable (fails to meet the standard) a flag is initiated immediately.
What is suspension of favorable personnel action?
The suspension of favorable actions on a Soldier is mandatory when military or civilian authorities initiate any investigation or inquiry that may potentially result in disciplinary or adverse administrative action.
Can you flag a Soldier without counseling?
Yes, there is a requirement to counsel. However the failure to counsel in a timely manner does not impact the flag action nor should it typically have a significant impact on a complaint.
Can I take leave if im flagged?
To my knowledge a Flag only stops advanced or excess leave. Normal leave is a benefit (meaning it is earned as part of your compensation), not an privilege. Therefore it can only be stopped in rare cases. For example, the command can disapprove leave if they could prove you are a flight risk for AWOL.
Can you get promoted while flagged?
Answer: Yes. If a Soldier is flagged the PPW system will remove the Soldier from the promotion standing list and place the Soldier into a NOT Eligible status.

Emergency leave is defined as chargeable leave approved by your commander, because of a verified death, a life-threatening condition due to an accident, illness, or major surgery, or to visit a terminally ill person in the immediate family.
How many days of terminal leave can you take?
60 days
You earn leave while you’re on terminal leave! You can sell back up to 60 days’ leave in a career, but you only get paid your basic pay (not BAH or BAS or special pays), so it’s financially better to take the leave if you can and you don’t need the cash right away.
Do you burn the flag if it touches the ground?
Does the flag have to be destroyed if it touches the ground? Answer: Care should be exercised in the handling of the flag, to protect it from becoming soiled or damaged. However, you are not required to destroy the flag if it touches the ground.
