The Archive is located in the heart of Hollywood at the Academy’s Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study. The Pickford Center is located at the northwest corner of Vine Street and Fountain Avenue in Hollywood, two blocks south of Sunset Boulevard and five blocks from the Red Line station at Hollywood and Vine.

The Academy’s membership process is by sponsorship, not application. Candidates must be sponsored by two Academy members from the branch to which the candidate seeks admission. Additionally, Academy Award nominees are automatically considered for membership and do not require sponsors.

An archivist is responsible for scanning or digitising these tapes into a digital medium to make them easier to access in the future with a planned migration for long term storage. Archivists work with all kinds of formats; film reels, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, QuickTimes and other digital files.
