What is a tube light?

What is Tube Light? Tube shaped fluorescent lamp is termed as tube light. Tube light is a lamp that works on low pressure mercury vapor discharge phenomenon and converts ultra violate ray into visible ray with the help of phosphor coated inside glass tube.

How do tube lights work?

A fluorescent lamp, or fluorescent tube, is a low-pressure mercury-vapor gas-discharge lamp that uses fluorescence to produce visible light. An electric current in the gas excites mercury vapor, which produces short-wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating on the inside of the lamp to glow.

Who invented Tubelight?

Edmund GermerFluorescent lamp / InventorEdmund Germer was a German inventor, recognized as the father of the fluorescent lamp. His father was an accountant. He obtained a doctorate from the University of Berlin in lighting technology. Wikipedia

When was the tube light invented?

Together with Friedrich Meyer and Hans Spanner, Edmund Germer patented an experimental fluorescent lamp in 1927. Edmund Germer is credited by some historians as being the inventor of the first true fluorescent lamp.

What is tube light made of?

A fluorescent lamp consists of a glass tube filled with a mixture of argon and mercury vapour. Metal electrodes at each end are coated with an alkaline earth oxide that gives off electrons easily. When current flows through the gas between the electrodes, the gas is ionized and emits ultraviolet radiation.

What material is used in tube light?

A fluorescent lamp consists of a glass tube filled with a mixture of argon and mercury vapour. Metal electrodes at each end are coated with an alkaline earth oxide that gives off electrons easily.

Why tube light is white?

However, since ultraviolet rays are not visible to the human eyes, the inside of the glass tube is coated with a fluorescent material that converts ultraviolet rays to visible light. It is this coating that causes fluorescent lamps to glow white.

Which gas is used in tube light?

A fluorescent lamp tube is filled with a gas containing low pressure mercury vapour and noble gases at a total pressure of about 0.3% of the atmospheric pressure.

What are tube lights called?

The fluorescent tube, also referred to as the fluorescent strip or tube light, is a low-pressure mercury vapour gas-discharge tube that converts fluorescence into visible light.

How tube light was invented?

In 1903, Peter Cooper Hewitt invented the first mercury vapour lamp. It was similar to a fluorescent lamp without the fluorescent coating on the tube, and produced greenish light.

What is inside the tube light?

Why mercury is used in tube light?

Small amounts of mercury can be released into the environment when CFLs break, or if they are improperly disposed of at the end of their useful lives. Mercury, an essential part of CFLs, allows a bulb to be an efficient light source.

Which gas is used in Tubelight?

In the most common construction, a pair of filament emitters, one at each end of the tube, is heated by a current and is used to emit electrons which excite the noble gases and the mercury gas by impact ionisation. This ionisation can only take place in intact light bulbs.

Why is tube light better?

In comparison to ordinary incandescent bulbs, tube lighting has high efficiency. However, compared to LED bulbs, it is less efficient and makes it clear that LED bulbs are more efficient than tube light, and you can get yourself some of the best-LED bulbs from Jaquar.
